Poster Practise - From Photo

This is my second attempt. Although I tried to make the background blurry, the image was already blurred to begin with. With the characters as part of the poster, to look professional I think they would either need to be clearly in focus or silhouettes. The problem I have found with creating the poster is that I have no experience with photo editing software and I have been learning in the process of creating. Although I don't think this works as a whole, I do like the effect of the moon created with the image on the left; although I think it would be more successful if I were to use another image. Like my previous attempt, I do not think this has enough detail or is done simply or is clearly enough to work as a poster. I will go back to using one image as the two do not work together.

Foreseen - Poster Practise

I wondered about having the poster hand drawn, as a simple cloak and smoky background. I quite like the effect I created with the shading and the mist, but I am not pleased with the overall look of the poster because it is filled with lots of unused space and the title doesn't work as a shadow. I think the image needs to be clearer in order to capture some obvious detail on the poster.

Opening Credits

I wanted the title and credits to look hand drawn to suit the theme of a world without technology. I drew each slide and painted a wash of watercolour over the font and used a fine pen to make the letters clear. I then edited each one on the computer so that the text and background would stand out and look less like a photograph; I hoped this would make each title more vivid and striking as an individual frame.

Costumes

Damien Bohun

Damien is the rich and influential Grandson of the original cloak owner; Zachery Bohun. Just like his Grandfather, he wears a top hat for effortless sophistication and a clear indication of status. But unlike Zachery, he wears a traditional Victorian overcoat and suit. It is all black and creates a dramatic silhouette which makes him distinctive from a crowd or in the distance. He stands out and is clearly recognisable as a rich and wealthy businessman.

Robin Finlay

Alternatively, Robin wears a navy waistcoat and black trousers. Although still smart, his look is fairly laid back; the suit does not match but still works as one. His shirt is an off-white colour and a thin cotton fabric. He has enough money, but could not be to be considered well-off; he dresses similarly to other men of his status (as can be seen in the pub scene). His tie has a paisley pattern and is a similar red to the cloak.

Helena

Helena wears a brown tweed jacket with black detail, a black corset, brown top, black high-low skirt, boots and footless tights. She wears a brooch and necklace; both antique in appearance. Helena has a very different look to her sister and prefers to take a more casual approach to life, which can be seen in their difference in style. Helena has a natural interest in fashion as well as having her own distinctive style - she has no desire to blend in, and although she dresses for herself rather than for the attention of men or to compete with other women (which she considers to be the reason that her sister dresses up), she is happy to have attention drawn to her. Although she is good at reading situations and empathising with people, she is rarely sentimental. She prefers to wear dark colours because she likes to approach her style with subtlety - she would never be caught wearing her sister's cloak.

William Fletcher

William's style is more laid back. William lives in a cottage just beside the woods and avoids visiting the town; not only because he enjoys his independence, but is secretly afraid of the villagers discovering the secret of his identity. His long coat is often worn by him as he regularly wanders around the woods during the night, even when there is no sign of a full moon. He wears a red shirt and navy trousers in a thick, durable fabric. He has very few items, makes very little money, and makes the most out of the items that he has. As he rarely visits the town, he feels no need to dress in the way that Robin does- in the film, he holds the lowest social status as he has no family, few connections, and would never be accepted if the town was to discover that he was a were-wolf (though rumours have been heard).

Scarlett

The red cloak is iconic in the Red Riding Hood storyline. Scarlett also wears a white mask during the chase scene (which is seen in her basket beforehand) - she carries this with her incase her Grandmother's assumptions are correct, and the Bohun's ever return. If she had to desert the cloak at any point, they could never be sure that she was the one connected to it. She also wears a smart black prom-style dress with silver gems. Scarlett is very concerned with her appearance and choses her clothing to match the cloak, which she wears for sentimental reasons. The black is sophisticated and stylish; but also allows her to blend in if she ever did need to keep her identity hidden.
