Character Profiles

Following Idea 1, here are my character profiles for the Protagonist, Mirror, and both Resolution characters:

Protagonist
Name: Brent Miller
Age: 19
Occupation: At college, studying History

Before the accident that caused him to lose his memory, Brent was a hardworking student who always showed a passion for history. He was living in a council house with his Mum, Dad, and sister, and his parents were barely able to afford food. They were raising their money for his sister's surgery (age 9) who was consistently ill. When Brent was only 11, his sister passed away; leaving him feeling lost and miserable. Although he initially got on well with the students in his school, he never felt close enough to any of them to tell them about this tragedy. He  grew apart from them all as he began to distance himself from them; preferring to remain an anonymous onlooker.

His parents, deeply distressed, suffered in different ways. His Mum became hysterical and angry. Covering up her misplaced anger at herself, she often made Brent feel inadequate and often told him he would never result to anything. Brent's Dad reacted to his wife's aggression by shutting himself away. Four years later, he had an affair with a woman he met at a pub, and moved away. Although still remaining close to his son, he failed to notice that Brent was often putting on a false smile and was suffering from deep depression. Aged 16, he knew he wanted a career in History but his lack of self-confidence led him to holding back on his dreams.

For the two years following the end of his GCSEs, Brent got a full-time job at a local food store. He got on well with his boss and coworkers due to his friendly and positive attitude, and the job helped give him the confidence boost he needed to apply for a History course which he would start at 19. He began socialising with a wide range of friends, and one evening met an aspiring politician, Marie, who became his girlfriend.

For the first time since his eleventh Birthday, Brent had taken control of his life and was following his dreams. But after starting college, the problems started to emerge again. His Dad (his means of emotional support) travelled far away on a Business trip. His Mum had spent many years on an Anger Management course and was almost herself again. Brent became involved in a car crash on a night out with his friends, and came home only mildly bruised. Terrified, and reminded of the loss of her daughter, his Mum began yelling at him.

Brent immediately left the house, tired and unable to cope with his mother's rage. On his walk, he came across two of his old school friends drinking at the side of the road; looking almost as miserable as him. He joined them, took a bottle, and explained to them the story of the car crash. The car had been left at the side of the road, still able to be used. Hearing about the deserted car, the men persuade Brent to come with them in an attempt to steal it. A middle aged couple come out of their house to confront the three of them, and they are soon involved in a fight. The two friends jump in the car as Brent still fights the man. In a rush, he scrambles up and darts forward; getting hit by the vehicle at full speed as it rushes away, closely followed by the police. Brent is unconscious on the ground, and the man is badly injured and bleeding.

The accident leaves Brent with a gap in his memory. He is still in the mindset of the 19 year old, fresh in college. Despite what he is told about the night, he finds it extremely difficult to comprehend that he could have been involved in such a thing. He is kind-hearted, easy going, funny and adventurous. Brent finds it easy to get on with people of all backgrounds; finding it comforting to meet others who have been through similar situations in childhood. This leads him to enjoy his time in prison. He gets on well with many of the other prisoners and remains open-minded and interested by the prospect of meeting new people and learning their stories.

Mirror
Name: David Green
Age: 34
Occupation: Prison Warden

As a child, David found it hard socialising and making friends. He came from a loving family of Mum, Dad, sister and brother. Being the youngest, he often looked up to his older siblings and they gave him a sense of protection. He felt like two different people experiencing different lives: his life at school, which was lonely, and his life at home, which accepted him.

He was bullied during his first and second school for being overweight. Although spending most of his time alone, he grew close to a girl called Ashleigh who made time for him and defended him against the negative comments.

In High School, he developed nervous twitches and was told that he suffered from Tourette syndrome. The students at his new school were young and naive. They responded badly to this, and never gave him a chance.

Although he was no longer at the same school as Ashleigh, he kept in contact with her and they spent many of their weekends together. At 17, he revealed his feelings for her and by the age of 26, they were married and expecting their first child.

David looked in to a wide range of possibilities for work, and found himself eager to become a policeman. At the age of 23, he was offered a position as a Prison Warden and remained there happily for 11 years. He became particularly close to Brent Miller, who was a prisoner there. They shared many things in common and soon became close friends. When he left, David became a father/brother figure to Brent.

David is a kind, fatherly man. His adult family is as close as his childhood family. He is strong-minded and gives off an immediate sense of authority.

Resolution. Character 1
Name: Elliot Smith
Age: 18
Occupation: Student

Elliot spent much of his childhood moving. Until he reached High School, he never settled down properly. He made friends fairly easily wherever he went, but rarely kept in contact with them after moving to a new location. Elliot was always laid-back and relaxed. He found it easy to see the good in people and enjoyed the company of people from different cliques.

He shared a close relationship with his Mum, his only family. As a teenager, this bond remained strong. A young parent, hardworking and ambitious, Elliot had much respect for his mother.

Elliot lived a normal teenage life. He inspired others' to feel positive and to take chances. His unpredictable humour was what people loved most about him.

On his eighteenth, he went out with his friends to visit some of the pubs and clubs he'd never stepped foot in before. Although the night started off well, it ended badly when he was stopped outside the pub by another student who had been drinking excessively. Elliot was easily swayed, and took the alcohol that was offered to him on top of what he'd already drank. When his friends left (unable to persuade him to leave with them), he continued to drink and became aggressive and reckless. Although Elliot was barely involved in the fight that took place that night, he followed his acquaintance's command is taking the car.

Resolution. Character 1
Name: Hayden Rielly
Age: 19
Occupation: None

His parents were ashamed of him from a young age, as they found it difficult to control him even as a young boy. Although this began as a cry for attention, it was soon replaced with a genuine need for his parents approval. By the time he was 10, they had became so caught up in their individual jobs that Hayden barely saw them for more than a few minutes at a time.

Hayden became rude and judgemental. He made company only by non-intentionally threatening the students around him. He felt cut-off from the rest of society. He constantly skived school and spent days alone, wandering the street. Soon he started drinking and taking drugs in an attempt to feel alive and real. Hayden had no idea what he wanted from life, or who he could turn to in the meantime. Although he was once lively and adventurous, he had lost any idea of who he was or how he should feel. When he saw people his age living regular and happy teenage lives, he felt an instant need to take it from them.
